MANY PEOPLE OFTEN ASK US THE QUESTION “WHY USE BAMBOO?
Why use bamboo? for reaaallllzzzzz!! We use bamboo in our products as a sustainable alternative to cotton, plastic, and wood. Bamboo has been officially recognized by the Guinness World Records as the fastest growing plant in the world, making an extremely sustainable resource for manufacturing. A bamboo plant can grow as much as 2 feet per day, reaching 60 feet in around 60 days! Unlike a tree that is cut for manufacturing which can take up to 60 years to replace.
Bamboo is also cut instead of uprooted from the ground, meaning it can be constantly regrown making it one of the most renewable resources on the planet. The roots of a bamboo tree are strong and extensive allowing it to retain water and avoid erosion.
As with all plants, bamboo absorbs Carbon Dioxide and releases Oxygen. However, bamboo has been proven to produces 35% more oxygen than trees. With the increase in pollution, rise of harmful greenhouse gasses and the speed of deforestation; bamboo plantations could be the answer to help to save the planet.
WHY USE BAMBOO FOR FABRICS?
Approximately 50% of all textiles manufactured are made from cotton and it takes around 20,000 liters of water to produce a single t-shirt and a pair of jeans! Cotton production accounts for 69% of the water footprint of the textiles fiber production. It requires 3 times as much water as bamboo to grow and uses 6% of the world’s pesticides and 16% of insecticides. Bamboo is grown organically meaning it needs no pesticides and fertilizers to grow.
As well as being more environmentally friendly than common fabrics, bamboo fabric is naturally antibacterial, hypoallergenic, breathable and wicks away moisture from your skin. Often compared to silk or Egyptian cotton, bamboo fabric extremely soft and durable.
WHY USE BAMBOO FOR TOOTHBRUSHES AND OTHER SIMILAR PRODUCTS?
We use bamboo is products such as toothbrushes, combs, and earbuds because it is 100% biodegradable and toxin-free, unlike plastic alternatives. Plastic pollution has reached epidemic levels all across the world and we believe that change needs to happen as soon as possible. By choosing products made from sustainable sources you are making a difference. According to The Natural History Museum between 4.8 and 12.7 million tones of plastic enter the ocean each year!
A bamboo plantation can yield up to 25 times more wood than regular timber, as well as being harder than most hardwoods making it extremely durable as well as termite resistant. Builders in China often use bamboo for scaffolding and building structure as it’s a strength has been compared to steel.
SO, TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION…
We use bamboo because we want to help change the environmental issues we are all facing. We believe that changes need to be made to the products we use regularly and the disposal of these products. Using sustainably made products that are biodegradable is one way you can help make a difference.
WHY USE BAMBOO AGAIN?
Use a bamboo toothbrush that biodegrades in 6 months instead of a plastic one that takes 100 years and ends up in our oceans. Wearing bamboo clothing instead of cotton and preserve thousands of liters of water. These are just a few small changes that we can all make that have a hugely positive impact on our planet.
